The huge Oktoberfest blowout thrown by Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street last weekend was the biggest yet. There were thousands of people, all of whom were consuming serious amounts of beer and food. Owner Doug Hager told Eater that the crowd downed 152 kegs of beer, and chef Jeremy Nolen announced some ridiculous amounts of pork consumption for the party.
"We ate a lot of pig. We had two whole pigs, one that was 140 lbs. and another that was 90 lbs.," Nolen told Eater. "And, we had 400 lbs. of shoulder, 420 lbs. of bratwurst, 120 lbs. of weisswurst, and 140 lbs. of knackwurst."
Even though the rumored pork shortage doesn't seem to be legit, Brauhaus Schmitz is certainly doing their part in making it a reality. Prost!
