A few weeks back, rumors were floating around that restaurateurs Marcie Turney and Val Safran were expanding Barbuzzo to the second floor. Today, Turney confirmed to Eater that they have indeed taken over the second floor above Barbuzzo, but they're not expanding the restaurant upstairs. They've got a few ideas, and all of them sound fantastic.
"We're going to have a huge U-shape bar/open kitchen with stools on the opposite side, so we can host kitchen demos and classes," Turney told Eater. "But, there's 60 seats up there, so it's like a whole other restaurant. We're going to do pop-ups or one-off dinners where I'll be in the kitchen, too. It'll also be available for private events, which means we don't have to shut down Barbuzzo to do them."
Turney said the new space will have its own name, and they're shooting to open next Spring, since they don't officially take over the space until February 3. She also said that they're finally going to have an official office space for administrative work.
"The options are limitless and Val and I are just really excited to see what we can come up with. I'm sure we'll do some guest dinners, too," Turney said. "We can't wait to get started."
