Mike Stollenwerk hit a homerun with critics and seafood fans when he opened Fish in 2009, but news comes today that it's on the move, again. As of October 23, Fish is taking over the adjacent ground-floor dining space in The Independent Hotel (they recently moved there from Lombard Street), which will cut the available seating down to a manageable 35 diners. They're adding a chef's counter with front row seating to the open kitchen, as well.
Originally, Stollenwerk was planning on opening a boutique steakhouse in the small space, but felt that Fish needed to be in a small and intimate space, again. But, the team isn't getting rid of the larger space. Instead, Stollenwerk & Co. is opening Rhino Bar in that location, which will have a gastropubby vibe, and serve food and drinks until 1 a.m.
