The long-awaited fast casual taco chain Taqueria Del Sol has announced an opening date of Oct. 22 in Willow Grove. Owner Chris Blythe has picked the shopping center at 4001 Welsh Road in Willow Grove for the first local outpost of the popular Georgia-based franchise. Taqueria Del Sol is open seven days a week for lunch from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and dinner service from Sunday through Thursday goes from 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. On the weekend, they stay open until 10:30 p.m.

Taqueria Del Sol has a mantle full of national awards, including being named Top American Restaurant by Bon Appétit mag, and the original owners Mike Klank and Eddie Hernandez have been nominated twice for the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurateurs in 2011 and 2012. That's serious business. Blythe told Eater that a second restaurant will open in the winter of 2013 in Springfield, Pa at the Springfield Shopping Center.

Some of the menu items making the trip north include: Fish Tacos, Fried Chicken Tacos, Memphis Taco (chopped smoked pork with jalapeno coleslaw and tequila BBQ sauce), Shrimp and Corn Chowder, and the very-popular Turnip Greens. Taqueria del Sol also has seafood and taco specials like Shrimp & Grits, Cheeseburger Taco, the Bob Taco (fried shrimp with crayfish mayonnaise, lettuce and pickled jalapenos), Buttermilk Fried Chicken and the Crispy Chile Relleno.
