Michael Schulson (Izakaya, Sampan) and Rob Wasserman (500 Degrees, Rouge) have teamed up to open a casual American grill spot on the Main Line called The Saint James. The menu is very straightforward comfort food-focused, which is a very different route than Philly is used to from Schulson, who has opened multiple Asian restaurants in the city.
"I got pigeonholed into Asian food, and I am glad to get the chance to do the food I started cooking when I was learning," Schulson told Eater. "My Nana was the greatest cook in the world, and she's the person who inspired me to become a chef, so I'm glad I finally get to do this cuisine. Also, it's nice to not have to use soy sauce in everything."
Schulson said they really designed the menu to appeal to everyone, including kids (franks in a blanket and spaghetti and meatballs, anyone?). But, there's plenty for those folks looking for something more sophisticated, like peekytoe crab toast and a filet tartare. The shellfish addicts will be happy, too, as The Saint James has a serious raw bar full of oysters, lobster, and shrimp cocktail.
