Mike Giammarino, the owner of the forthcoming Gennaro's Tomato Pie, is putting the finishing touches on his almost-ready-to-go pizza shop at 1429 Jackson St. in South Philly. The place has a 1940's look to it with huge graphic ad banners hanging from the walls and bright, bold primary colors accenting the stools and tables. Giammarino used to own Lombardi's in Rittenhouse Square, which was an offshoot of the world famous Lombardi's in NYC, which he also owns and operates.
The restaurant is set to open on January 2, but has already passed all necessary inspections and held a tasting event last Saturday. While this project appeared out of nowhere, everyone's keeping a close eye on the calendar as the opening draws closer. If you'd like to see more shots of the interior, the Passyunk Post has a great gallery.
