Superstar chef Christopher Lee surprised his fans in Philly by announcing that he would be returning to our fair city in the near future. Well, those nebulous plans have come into focus today, as Lee is working on more than one concept over the next few years, starting with a series of pop-ups at 1623 E. Passyunk Ave. (formerly Salt + Pepper) that will be called Chef Christopher Lee at 1623. In the long-term, though, Lee plans on opening a restaurant called Sophia's in the same location after the pop-ups are finished. The concept for Sophia's will be a follow-up of sorts to his beloved Striped Bass which closed years ago and has been replaced by Butcher & Singer.
But, Chef Lee doesn't plan on stopping there. He told Grub Street that he has plans for another restaurant for Philly after Sophia's opens to the public, but wouldn't talk about what it might be. And Washington, D.C. better pay attention, too, as Lee plans on heading south to open a few more places after he's done with Philly. Got all that? Good.
