Octo to Become Avram Hornik's American Beer Garden

Octo, we hardly knew ye. The riverfront bar is being replaced by an as-of-yet unnamed new beer garden from Avram Hornik and his Union Transfer partners this year. Hornik says the bar will be seasonal only, and shut down when the chill hits the air, or October/November, whichever comes first. Expect lots of bottled beer, large local selection of brews, and summer seafood and sandwiches.

While Hornik has his detractors in the city, you can't deny his golden touch with live music and drinking venues. Besides the epic Union Transfer, Hornik was responsible for Lucy's Hat Shop, Brasserie Loie, Drinker's, and the legendary Bar Noir. For those old enough to remember, the four-hour, two shift brunch buffet for $20 at Lucy's (which included all you could drink mimosa and beer, football on TV, movies, free ping pong, and flip cup) was a reason to shake off the fog from the night before. Hornik made Sunday morning the new Friday night in the early 2000's. Part of us hopes he will bring that tried and true concept to the new waterfront project.
