Status: Opening tonight at 5 P.M.
Marc Vetri's long-awaited Italian gastropub, Alla Spina, opens its doors to a hungry Philadelphia tonight at 5 PM, and it couldn't come soon enough. Eater stopped by for an early peek over the last few weeks, and were very impressed with the food coming out of the kitchen as well as the space itself. The beer list is chock full of rare Italian craft brews as well as local favorites, and you winos will have lots to drink coming from special drafts behind the bar as well.
The menu is heavy on the fried foods, most of which we've never seen in Philly before, which is pretty insane if you think about it. But, there is plenty for you non-adventurous diners, too, including a great rendition of fried chicken, and housemade mortadella hot dogs. Our favorite dish is the pig pot pie, and for dessert we're betting heavily on the doughnut bread pudding to win over Philly's heart as a favorite in 2012. We'll see everyone there tonight.
