On March 21st at 4:30 P.M. Matt Levin will soft open Square Peg, his ode to diner food at 10th and Walnut Streets. Levin, along with owners Barry Gutin and Larry Cohen (Cuba Libre, 32 Degrees), have transformed the former Marathon Grill space into a bi-level restau-bar featuring high-end versions of American classics. Normally, we find two or three dishes that get the drool moving, but Levin's latest project is stacked to the gunnels with calorie-heavy crowd pleasers. We would eat the whole thing.
The menu is broken down into starters, sides, and mains. Some of the highlights include: Lobster Corn Dogs, Cheesesteak Pot Pie, BBQ Brisket, and a Turkey Slider, which summons the spirit of the Thanksgiving Sandwich. There are two pop-out sections that reinforce the whole diner vibe, too: all-day breakfast (Pountine, anyone?) and daily specials like beef stroganoff and spaghetti with crab gravy. Square Peg is going the popular route of offering up local craft beer, signature cocktails and spiked milkshakes for you boozers, and come April 5th, you can stop in for lunch, too.
