Craft beer magnate Brendan Hartranft (Memphis Taproom, Resurrection Ale House) is opening his Local 44 Bottle Shop on Monday, March 19 at 3 P.M. at 44th and Spruce Streets. The long-in-coming takeout project is celebrating the occasion with a Russian River Brewing day at the bar next door starting at 11:30 A.M. Hartranft said that the insanely-popular Pliny the Younger will be tapped alongside Pliny the Elder (Double IPA), Supplication (Pinot Noir-barreled sour ale), and Consecration (Cabernet Sauvignon-barreled sour ale).
Once the 500-deep bottle shop opens at 3, the party continues as they'll be handing out free glasses of Yards ESA from the cask (one per customer, freeloaders). Shortly thereafter, expect some rarities from Victory Brewing Co., including Braumeister Pilsner, which we would kill a family member for. If there was ever a reason to spend 4 consecutive hours at the corner of 44th and Spruce in West Philly, this is it.
