Status: Opening tonight at 4:30 P.M.
Chef Matt Levin's latest and greatest, Square Peg, opens its doors to a hungry Philadelphia tonight at 4:30 PM, and we're pretty stoked about the bi-level restaurant. Eater posted details of the involved menu last week, and tonight everyone gets to try it out for themselves.
Levin said that only the first floor will be open for the first two weeks (around 60 seats, plus about 10 at the bar), but the full menu will be available. We suggest giving the fried chicken tacos and the mac and cheese grilled cheese your attention first, and washing it down with any number of great American beers and liquors they have behind the bar. Reservations and walk-ins are welcome. Only dinner is being served at this time, and lunch will slowly move into the fold in a few weeks.
The decor is very modern, but accented with old school photos that have been transferred to huge canvases featuring incognito employees dolled up in turn-of-the-century garb. There are a few iconic pictures that have been "updated" with members of the kitchen staff, including Levin himself. Square Peg looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.
