In what can only be described as a gauntlet of alcoholic endurance, the Khyber Pass Pub is hosting their annual Russian Imperial Stout festival tomorrow starting at noon. Dubbed the "Tsarpower," this throwdown is one of Philly's favorite beer events of the year, celebrating the biggest and baddest brews in the country. While we're sure you all know what a stout is, the word Imperial in any brew indicates an excessive amount of alcohol, traditionally higher than 10%. So, by 2 P.M., you'll be calling your high school girlfriend/boyfriend during a trip to the can, and planning a trip to Russia with the guy sitting next to you at the bar, because Russian Imperial Stouts are probably even better in the homeland.
Some of the brews making an appearance are: Philadelphia Brewing Company's Shackamaximum, Weyerbacher Brewing Company's Old Heathen, Bierbrouwerij Grand-Café Emelisse Imperial Russian Stout, and the super-rare Mikkeller Black Hole. The event is pay as you go, and they always have a neat-o constructivist t-shirt design to go along with the drinking.
