On May 11, entrepreneur Bob Logue is opening The New Market at The Shambles at 2nd and Lombard Streets in the same location as The Farmer's Market. The New Market will feature local purveyors and food artisans alongside craftsmen, and live classical musicians. The weekly gathering will take place Fridays from 3PM until 9 PM from May through October, and have already signed up Capogiro, Love Bar Chocolates (Philly's first bean-to-bar sweets), and Farm to City, a service that connects locals with local farmers to provide year round produce.
"The New Market will be a convenient, dependable way for Philadelphians to find the top notch goods and locally based services and bring them home. We hope to become a staple in people’s schedules, as a kick-off for the weekend and also as a shopping destination," said Logue.
The list of vendors is slowly growing, and Logue will surely be bringing in some notables from Philly's restaurant set, as he is partners with industry vets (Federal Donuts, Bodhi Coffee) that are known for artisan goodies. This is great news for the South Street residents, who already have a windfall of locally sourced goods in the same location for the Sunday Farmer's Market.
