While Vernick Food+Drink is a few weeks away from opening at 2031 Walnut Street, news of another eatery opening up right next door at 2029 Walnut has leaked out. Called La Petite Dauphine, Le Bec-Fin alum David Smith is working on a new upscale coffee shop/cafe that will stress luxury above all else. The address has been home to some unsuccessful concepts, most recently Strongbox and Monkey Bar.
The cozy little shop will be open from 7 A.M to 10 P.M. serving baked goods from Au Fornil in Narberth in the morning, and a limited menu for the rest of the day including classic French favorites like foie gras, quiche, and tartes. Afternoon tea will be served all weekend, and an expanded dinner menu will be added later this year. The name La Petite Dauphine is a reference to Marie Antoinette before she became the Queen of France.
