Gene Giuffi, chef and owner of Cochon, is opening Blue Belly BBQ at the corner of 6th and Catharine in June. Cochon, which translates to pig in French, has long been one of Philly's favorite places for porky goodness, and Giuffi is taking those talents to a more casual atmosphere. Prices will top out at $9.50 for sandwiches, and $13.50 for meat platters with sides.
Giuffi isn't going by the book for his barbecue, as he was raised in the North and we don't have rules like the folks in the Carolinas or Texas when it comes to this stuff. The menu will feature items like pulled pork, jerk chicken, chili dogs, and lamb neck barbacoa.
No word on the drink program yet, but since Cochon is BYOB, there's no reason not to believe they won't extend that concept to the new spot. The location previously housed the original Little Fish, and was going to be a Thai project from Tyson Wong Ophaso.
