Looks like Gordon Dinerman of Birra fame has taken over the empty storefront at 1537 S. 11th Street, catty-corner from old school red sauce joint Chiarella's on East Passyunk. Foobooz is reporting that the new place will be called Fountainhead Saloon, and will be an upscale burger joint "in the spirit of Village Whiskey." As long as that spirit doesn't extend to the price point of VW, everything will be just fine.

Fountainhead will sport 35 seats inside with another 18 al fresco, adding to the sidewalk insanity that is the East Passyunk fountain dining triangle. Dinerman is saying that they should open for service in under six months, but if the oft-delayed Birra is any indication, we won't hold our breath to hit that timeline. All kididng aside, Birra has some quality food coming out of the kitchen, so there's hope for another good spot on EPX.
