The crew from Le Castagne and Panorama is opening their new casual trattoria concept, Spiga, tomorrow at 11 A.M. The chef from Le Castagne, Brian Wilson, is running the kitchen, and turning out a pretty huge menu. The appetizers section is 12 options deep and tops out at $6. Yes, $6. The wood-burning oven is being used for more than just pizza, including strip steaks, fish of the day, and anything else chef Wilson can cram in there.
While that neighborhood is getting pretty damned full of restaurants, Spiga looks like it will be an affordable option, with a menu that has something for everyone. Even those annoying people who have a problem with anything more than a dry chicken breast. The panini slider section looks pretty creative, with lots of Philly-favorite flavors like a pork slider with broccoli rabe, tomato, mozzarella and arugula, and steak with parmigiano cream and balsamic onions.
