Holy crap. Philly was named the #2 Burger City in America by Travel + Leisure Magazine, following only Providence, RI. Chicago comes in at number 3, and that's pretty good company. Los Angeles, home to the original McDonald's and In-N-Out Burger, is in the Top 20, as well as Minneapolis, which found fame with the Juicy Lucy.
Matt Zagorski, part-owner of Hickory Lane and the brains behind the Rouge Burger, is quoted in the piece as saying "It's not just a sandwich anymore, it's an entree."
While, it's a bit surprising that Philly is near the top of this list, we do have a serious breadth of quality options around town. From the Good Dog Burger, to the Churchill at Pub & Kitchen, and the Village Whiskey masterpiece, there are a lot of passionate patty pros in our midst. Things will only get better when Shake Shack arrives this summer at 20th and Sansom Streets.
