The owner of Sakura Mandarin is expanding his empire to Center City. The Insider is reporting that Jack Chen has taken over 1228 Chestnut Street, and will be opening Spice 28 in early July. The menu will be a mix of Szechuan and Asian fare.
Sakura is one of the best restaurants in Chinatown, and bringing soup dumplings and pork belly to Chestnut Street is a definite plus for a block that doesn't have too much else going on. There will be a bar at Spice 28, and the space will have a modern elegant vibe. Chen promises prices that won't break the bank.
