Spice 28, the new high-end Chinese mashup from restaurateur Jack Chen (Sakura Mandarin) and newcomer Ben Wang, is open for business. The concept is unique in that they are offering both legitimate Sichuan dishes, and more modern Asian cuisine in the same restaurant.

"On the Sichaun side, we've got classics like dan dan noodles and crispy cucumber," Wang told Eater. "And we're still working on the modern side, with dishes like spicy gyoza, that kind of stuff. But, it's still a work in progress."

Wang, who has been managing restaurants in NYC for the past 5 years, is more than just Chen's business partner. They're family.

"Jack's my cousin. He wanted to go into business with someone he knew had experience, and could trust," said Wang.

The restaurant is currently BYOB until their liquor license arrives, which should be in September. Wang said that diners can bring whatever alcohol they want, and the restaurant will periodically make up drinks on the house.
