Le Bec Fin is the only local restaurant participating in Julia Child Restaurant Week, which takes place from August 7 until August 14. Julia Child is the most famous food TV personality of all time, and her 100th birthday would have been this year on August 15. To honor her influence on American cooking culture—including introducing our country to the greatness that is French cuisine—chef Walter Abrams is presenting a special menu available in Chez Georges, the downstairs bar at Le Bec Fin.
Abrams picked most of the menu items from either her legendary cookbooks or iconic episodes of her show, The French Chef. On the savory side, options will include French onion soup, Ratatouille, Lobster Americaine, Bouillabaisse, and Short Ribs. For those of you with a sweet tooth, expect Crepes Suzette, Chocolate Rum Almond Cake, and, of course, Crème Brulee.
On her actual birthdate, August 15, the restaurant is offering a three-course meal for $60, or $85 with wine pairings. Guests should arrive at 6:30 for canapes, and then the Crepes Suzette will be flambéed in the dining room. There will also be a birthday cake at the end of the meal to cap off the celebration. Reservations must be made for her birthday bash, so call Le Bec Fin at 215-567-1000 to hold your space.
