Evan Clancy and Scott Pawlicky have taken over former EPX neighborhood bar 1601, and are opening Fountain Porter around Labor Day. The Insider is reporting that Fountain Porter will have 20 taps, cheap wine, and the menu is "to-be-determined." Don't expect Fountain Porter to have the gastropub vibe, as the owners are going for a mellow, neighborhood feel, and "nothing pretentious."

The owners both work at Jim Kirk's Kite & Key in Franklintown, and Kirk has a small percentage of ownership in Fountain Porter. As the bar inches closer to opening, the Pawlicky and Clancy are turning on the handmade neon sign a few hours each day to get the buzz going in the neighborhood.

Restaurateur Gordon Dinerman was working on opening a bar called The Fountainhead right across the street from Fountain Porter, but the space has gone to the Fond crew to open their new location.
