After yesterday's post on Chicago-based chef Joncarl Lachman looking at the soon-to-be available Fond space as possible landing spot, a comment appeared from Sam Sherman of the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corp. saying that it wasn't a done deal.
Apparently, Lachman name-dropped a few spaces he thought were for sale that he was looking to move into, and Fond was one of them (Fond is moving down the street later this year). Well, the mix-up has revealed that Fond's Lee Styer is holding onto the space. Styer confirmed that he and his team are keeping the original Fond at 1617 East Passyunk, which means there's a new concept on the way.
Styer wouldn't talk about what was going in that location, but an educated guess would be a bigger shop for Jess Prawlucki's Belle Cakery. The super-talented Prawlucki is a life and business partner with Styer, and is operating in a tiny space just up the street that can hardly hold up with the demand for her pastries.
Lachman apparently looked at other locations on EPX while he was here, and is still dedicated to opening Winkel on the Avenue. Great news on all fronts for East Passyunk.
