Well, it happened. Finally, someone handed out an award defining Philly as the best sandwich town in the U.S., and a trophy for that sandwich can now be found at DiNic's in The Reading Terminal Market. Last night, Adam Richman hosted the finale of his show, The Best Sandwich in America, and not one, but two sandwiches came from our fair city. While the cheesesteak from John's Roast Pork went down in early rounds of the competition, DiNic's roast pork sailed through and took home the crown.

"I have no plans to do anything more than come in and cook at 4 a.m., doing what we always do," owner Joe Nicolosi told Eater when asked about the next steps for his sandwich stand. "Not to sound like an asshole, but I think too much ambition can be a bad thing in this business. I just need one good stand where we do things old school, not 10 of them."

And, just like that, Nicolosi gets a special place in Philly's heart, along with the extra 15 pounds he's stuck to its waistline. Congrats to DiNic's for bringing home the coveted title to Sandwich City. No tears should be shed for John's Roast Pork, either, because they have a James Beard Award hanging on the wall, which ain't so bad.
