Long ago a sign popped up in the window of 138 Chestnut Street, announcing the impending arrival of a contemporary Japanese restaurant. Fast forward to today, and the sign for Roe is lighting up Old City, along with some intense sushi rolls, and a plethora of Thai cuisine on an absolutely huge menu.
The interior is slick and very modern, much like new Philly fave Fat Salmon at 7th and Walnut Streets. The prices are quite high, but considering the location, they're not eye-poppingly ridiculous. The menu is stuffed with soups, salads, chef specialties (mostly Thai), sushi rolls, small bites, and desserts. Midtown Lunch has already dropped by, and has a few solid suggestions for those looking to jump in this weekend. Roe is open for lunch and dinner all week, but they're closed on Sunday.
