Mike Santoro and Mike Dorris are opening their debut restaurant, The Mildred, tonight on 8th Street in Bella Vista. Santoro is offering up American cuisine with some Brit influences and, of course, French technique. Santoro, who trained at the legendary Fat Duck and Mugaritz, was the opening chef at Stephen Starr's Talula's Garden before a difference in philosophy ended the partnership early on. Almost immediately after leaving Talula's, Santoro got to work on his own concept, and now Philly gets to see what he can really do.
The space was once James, but has gone through significant overhaul and has a completely new look and feel to it. There are 60 bottles on the wine list, and 10 available by the glass. The 6 beer taps will rotate seasonally, and there's a signature cocktail list, of course. The space has a main dining room, in addition to a private dining room which has room for another 22 diners, and a lounge space and bar which add an additional 46 seats. This is sure to be one of the hottest openings of the fall season.
