The Red Owl Tavern is opening at 5th and Chestnut Streets around October 4. The year long renovation of the 100-year-old Lafayette Building will be complete at the end of September, and at that time the Hotel Monaco will cut the ribbon. The Red Owl is the centerpiece of the overhaul, and will be helmed by Beard Award-winning chef Guillermo Tellez, who also runs the kitchen at Square 1682 in Rittenhouse Square.
The restaurant will have 115 seats (25 outside), and offer breakfast lunch, and dinner. The menu is being called "rustic" and will be full of simple and seasonal flavors. Tellez is doing much of the butchering in house and is sourcing mostly local meats. The bar will have signature cocktails, wine, and a selection of craft beers in bottles and on draft.
