After weeks of deliberation and eating everywhere that matters in Philly, Star Chefs announced their 2013 Rising Star Award Winners and it's a solid mix of the already and almost famous cooks in town.
In the specialty categories, you'll find Le Virtu's Joe Cicala listed as the artisan, Brauhaus Schmitz's Jeremy Nolen is the conceptual chef, and Top Chef Kevin Sbraga wins the title of community chef. Our most sustainable chefs are Andrew and Kirstin Wood of Russet. Mike Solomonov was named outstanding restaurateur, which is the biggest no-brainer of all time.
In the undiscovered gems list, you'll find Will Zuchman of Alma De Cuba (which still has it after all these years), Yun Fuentes of JG Domestic, and Peter Scarola, who does the sweet stuff at R2L, high above the city.
Some of the other known Philly quantities include: Greg Vernick (winner of the Eater Chef of the Year), Joshua Lawler of Farm and Fisherman, Nick Elmi of Rittenhouse Tavern, and the newest "it boy," Eli Kulp of Fork.
For the full line-up of Star Chef winners in Philly, check out the site. To celebrate the big occasion, there's an awards ceremony at the Kimmel Center on February 21. Tickets are available for $90 if you'd like to bask in the glory of Philly's very best.
