First up is Philly Bierfest 2013, February 23 at the German Society at 611 Spring Garden St. Visit with 15+ local leading brewers of lagers, bocks and weizens, and sample imports from Germany. The Philly Roller Girls will be hosting an arm-wrestling challenge, with traditional German snacks provided by beerhall Brauhaus Schmitz. For the beer nerds: drinks pro Marnie Old will be leading a German beer panel at noon -- hear from the likes of Bill Covaleski (Victory) and Lew Bryson (celebrated author). A brewing demo from Barry's Homebrew and live bluegrass and jazz round out the entertainment.

Next up is Philly Craft Beer Fest at the Navy Yard, March 2. Food trucks will be rolling up (Lil' Dan's, Say Cheese, Chewy's, more) and dozens of breweries will be pouring five-ounce samples for five hours. Word to the wise: the fest is outdoors on the former Naval Runway. In March. Yeah.

Tickets to both events are available online, and you're encouraged to buy in advance. Drink responsibly and enthusiastically.
