While their big Los Angeles plans may have fallen through, that didn't stop the Vedge crew from continuing their plans for world domination. It's just starting a little closer to home, more specifically, at 126 S. 19th Street in Rittenhouse Square. The space is much, much smaller than Vedge, though, as Landau told Eater that it's only around 1,000 square feet in total. The project has no name yet, and the timeline for opening is set for late Spring of 2014.
For those fans concerned that they're making a smaller Vedge twin across town, fear not, as Landau emphasized that the new location will be a standalone concept. They'll be "striving to focus on some of the bolder, edgier dishes we've been doing on our Dirt List, trying to compliment the elegance of the dining experience at Vedge with an upbeat, bar-centric hang," Landau said.
For you observant types, you might notice that Landau's new project is almost the exact same number address just one street over from Nicole Marquis' HipCityVeg, which lives at 127 S. 18th Street. Whether or not it's a response to Marquis' plans to open a new restaurant at 131 S. 13th Street—just a few blocks away from Landau's Vedge—is unclear, but a good ol' fashioned restaurateur rivalry (especially when it involves a mentor and mentee, as is the case between these two extremely talented chefs) is never a bad thing for a city's food scene.
