When word got out that Carman's Country Kitchen was closing, the citywide gasp might've been audible from Delaware—but the fact that its replacement promised Portuguese flavors helped ease the pain a little. Now, the Passyunk Post reports that Porto is officially open for business, and the space has gotten a lot roomier while the prices have dropped.
The Portuguese influence isn't all-encompassing, but woven into a large (and very affordable) menu of breakfast and lunch standards that draw flavors from a variety of traditions. But there are bacalhau cakes for breakfast and a number of uses for linguica, Portuguese rolls and St. George cheese, and so forth. Check out the P'yunk Post's report for more great photos and menus.
