In addition to the benefits tomorrow and in January that we updated you on earlier, we have word of another benefit dinner coming up this weekend at Tela's Market and Kitchen. The dinner is being hosted by Tela's chef Chad Williams, Cuba Libre chef Jasper Alivia, and the owners of the Poi Dog Philly truck, Kiki Aranita and Chris Vacca.
Dinner's at 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, and they're asking for a $55 minimum donation to the Red Cross per person (though of course you can give more if you're able). Dinner includes four courses of some traditional Filipino food and some not-so-traditional. Poi Dog will kick off the meal with Philadelphia lumpia with long hot dipping sauce (if you guessed a cheesesteak-inspired filling, you're absolutely right), and finish it up with a pineapple bibingka (a type of cake made with rice flour) for dessert. In between, chef Williams will make a peanut and oxtail stew called kare kare, and chef Alivia will prepare lechon kawali, the crunchy-skinned roast pork that you probably know of even if you have no other experience with Filipino food.
