After a few days of Joe Bastianich almost definitely getting more calls from Philadelphians than he has in every other week of his life combined, Michael Klein finally got a hold of someone involved in Eataly, and the news is meh. Alex Saper, who is an Eataly managing partner and maybe also a guy who hates fun, declined to speak directly to Bastianich's comment and dialed Philly back to "on a short list of other cities," which is exactly where we were before Monday. In conclusion: No confirmed change in status, Philly is fairly likely to get an Eataly eventually, and we should all come to terms with the fact that we are little more than pawns in the hands of the rich and powerful (just in general, this is a good thing to come to terms with).
