After a very long investigation called "Operation Swill," the office of the New Jersey Attorney General has targeted 29 bars that have been accused of swapping out top shelf booze with non-premium, or "well" liquor. While this shady switcheroo maneuver has been around as long as brand name hooch has been available, this investigation is the largest and most-high profile to date.
Among the 29 establishments suspected of this practice, 13 are TGI Friday's (all of which appear to be owned by The Briad Group, based in Livingston, NJ) as well as popular spots Sona 13 and Blackthorn Restaurant. The info was gathered by tipsters, customer complaints, and some booze analyzing technology.
