Those whispers about the Aksum crew opening a new restaurant at 5021-23 Baltimore Avenue have been confirmed by owner Saba Tedla. Tedla said that she's in the process of opening Babylon Bistro, and that they've already started construction, which includes knocking down the wall separating the two storefronts creating one giant space. The concept is something she's referring to as "International Tapas," which is described as small plates of various cuisines from around the world.

"There aren't that many restaurants around here, and the ones that we have are all very focused on one specific cuisine or another," Tedla told Eater. "I would like people to have a lot of options."

Tedla is working on getting a liquor license lined up, and is in the midst of interviewing chefs to run the kitchen. The restaurant is around 4,000 square feet in size, and will hold between 75-100 diners. She's shooting for an early 2014 opening, hopefully cutting the ribbon by Spring.
