What? Yes, Philly's first celebrity chef restaurant and sushi mecca, Morimoto, just launched a take-home ice cream and sorbet program. Pastry chef Thomas McCarthy is responsible for the house-made frozen treats, which were inspired by his travels to Asia and the crazy flavor combos found abroad. Judging by the names of the different ice creams, McCarthy appears to have been inspired by late night munchies and the leafy green goddess that facilitates their existence, as well.
The Morimoto team promises 30 different whimsical varieties and flavors over the next few months, from Salty Beach to French Toast & Bacon ice cream. The launch day lineup includes:
·Mary Jane Brownie: Kinako (or toasted soybean flour) ice cream with bits of chocolate brownie and candied hemp seeds.
·Miso Honey: A salty sweet combination made with burnt honey ice cream swirled with sweet shiro miso.
·Pist Toff: Pistachio ice cream with toffee pieces.
·Coconut Coffee: Creamy coconut sorbet with a coffee swirl and cacao nibs.
·Chicken 'n Waffle: Buttermilk ice cream with fried chicken skin and maple waffle pieces.
·Popcorn: It's popcorn.
