Chef Sylva Senat sent an email around to the local media announcing his sudden departure from Tashan, the high-end Indian restaurant that visionary Munish Narula launched at 777 S. Broad Street last year. Senat received high praise from just about every critic that ate at Tashan, celebrating his unique take on traditional dishes, modern technique, and use of high-end ingredients.
Senat said that recent developments at the restaurant—including some philosophical clashes—led to his firing from the establishment. Narula wouldn't comment on the details of the situation except to verify that Senat was no longer at Tashan, and that he wouldn't be cooking in any of his other restaurants, including the just-opened Tiffin Bistro in South Philly.
As for Senat, he's now a free agent chef looking for a new home. And for you fans of Tashan, fear not, as chef Kirti Pant—who was tapped to run Tiffin Bistro—will be taking over the kitchen on Broad Street. Sad day, indeed.
