It finally happened. After years of gossipy chatter predicting the end of Chifa, chef Jose Garces has decided to officially close up his Peruvian-Chinese mashup that sits at 707 Chestnut Street. In its place, Garces is opening a Cuban diner concept later this fall. They'll be open for both lunch and dinner, and it's a good bet that the late-night scene will offer up salsa music and impromptu dancing as well.
If you're foggy on what kind of food you'll find at a Cuban diner, Garces has said that the menu will be packed with comfort food like empanadas, Cubano sandwiches, Ropa Veija as well as a malta fountain, milkshakes, and classic Carribean cocktails like mojitos and daiquiris. There's no timeline yet for an exact opening date, but we'll keep you posted.
