On Thursday, July 18, South Philly is hosting the 5th Annual Pizza Olympics at Penn's Landing Caterers, located at 1301 S. Columbus Blvd., from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The massive event has grown each year, and this time around they're expecting upwards of 800-1,000 ticketholders to show up and cheer on their favorite pizza shop.
The competitors will be competing in categories like: best crust, best sauce, best tomato pie, and everyone's favorite, creative toppings. Those attending the event will have the chance to eat pizza from all of the competitors, as well as throwing back plenty of beer to wash it all down. Early favorites to win this year are Santucci's, SliCE, and Cacia's.
Tickets are still available online, and you can stop by the offices of the South Philly Review at 12th and Porter Streets. There will be a few will be sold at the door. But, make sure you get yours before 4 p.m. tomorrow, when sales are being shut down.
