Even though Stephen Starr has been a big cog in the resturant machine of Philadelphia for the 20 years, no one will ever accuse him of being stagnant. Starr just announced that he has entered a partnership with Fatty Crab Prez Rick Camac to help the brand expand beyond New York borders—he has agreed to launch 9 new "Fatty" properties—with outposts opening as close as Philly and as far away as London.
The first new Stephen Starr-led Fatty Crab will open in Washington, D.C. in about 3 months. It's worth noting that even though Camac is the head honcho of the Fatty brand, Starr Restaurants will be responsible for operating all of the new properties, which includes developing seasonal and city-specific menus.
For the uninitiated, the Fatty Crab concept features Southeast Asian cuisine prepared using Western world techniques. Their sister restaurant, Fatty 'Cue, is Camac and chef Zak Pelaccio's take on the very best smoky meats and sides from the south. There's no word yet on when The Emperor will cut the ribbon on Philly's very own Fatty Crab.
