With the glut of new food trucks that have descended upon Philly recently, you might think we'd already seen every concept. Today we're hearing that Schmear It, "a bagel truck with a conscience" is about to hit the streets. At its core, Schmear It sells custom bagel sandwiches that are made with freshly baked South Street Bagels and slathered with a host of spread options like cream cheese, Nutella, peanut butter, tofu spread, tuna salad, and egg salad. Then, additional ingredients like smoked lox, cucumber, bananas, mangos, wasabi, and Sriracha are added to make each customer's desired "schmear."

The "social conscience" part of the concept is where things get interesting. Schmear It will highlight a local cause each week, and a portion of the sales will be donated to that organization. In addition to the monetary contribution, the truck itself will become a marketing vehicle displaying information about that week's cause—its mission, local impact, and ways to get involved—and be a mobile do-gooder turning customers into supporters without any extra effort. It's pretty brilliant.

There's no timeline for when Schmear It will get rolling, but stay tuned and we'll let you know as soon as we do.
