Legendary hip-hop icons Trevor Tahiem Smith—better known as Busta Rhymes—and DJ Scratch tore shit up at Whisper on Monday night before disappearing out the back door and making a bee-line for Cheesesteak Vegas. Busta and Scratch didn't go to Pat's, but instead ended up at Geno's, the home of the "English Only" ordering mandate and "Press 1 for English, Press 2 for Deportation" window signage (Eater has been told that the sign has recently been removed).
Hopefully things are changing for the better at the legendary steak shop since Joey Vento shuffled off this mortal coil, but it irks us when out-of-towners see Geno's as official representation of our trademark sandwich with that garbage. But, apparently it didn't bother the hip hop legends, as Busta was more than happy to pose with a Geno's grill man for this picture.
UPDATE: Since the passing of Joey Vento, his son Geno has taken over the business and recently hired a PR firm to help the business move into the 21st century and away from racism. They've gotten rid of the deportation sign, but apparently Joey Vento's dying wish was to keep the "Speak English" sign in place, which is really mindblowing considering all you can ask for when you leave behind a legacy. But, it's a start, and their efforts shouldn't be ignored.
