Philly cigar magnate Robert Levin just cut the ribbon on his stylish Center City clubhouse, the Ashton Cigar Bar. Named for his family's proprietary line of stogies, the Ashton sits on the second floor above the Holt's Cigar Company flagship store at 1522 Walnut Street.
The Ashton will serve from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. during the week, and on Saturday and Sunday the doors open at noon. Levin has partnered up with his son, Sathya, and his daughter, Meera in this new endeavor, ensuring it will stay in the family for decades to come. The GM is David Marks, a man with 20 years in the industry under his belt, and an encyclopedic knowledge of sipping booze and keeping customers happy.
The Ashton has a walk-in humidor with more than 200 different cigars, including two signature options, the Ashton Crown from the Dominican Republic, and the La Aroma de Cuba Noblesse from Nicaragua. In addition to the smokeables, they offer 200 delicious and rare whiskeys, 300 sippable spirits, more than 20 different beers, 10 bottles of wine, and a menu full of classic and signature cocktails. Got all that? Good.
The dazzling interior design of the Ashton was done by legendary New York architecture firm Bentel & Bentel, who are known for their 2012 Beard Award-winning revamp of Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin. And for those of you fearing a heavy cloud of cigar smoke hanging over the proceedings, don't worry. The Ashton features a customized air purification system designed and built by the same manufacturer that works with the country's top hospitals and casinos.
