2nd Story Brewing Co. is less than a week away from opening in the former Triumph Brewing space on Chestnut Street. And now, we've got a copy of the food menu, which will be executed by head chef Rebecca Krebs, most recently of Salt Air restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.
The very first item under appetizers will be a welcome sight for anyone who's been missing Triumph's soft pretzels: "Bryan's pretzels" with beer-laced cheese dip are on the new menu, and namesake Bryan Kenny (now sous for 2nd Story) was in the kitchen during the Triumph era.
The idea is fairly straight-ahead bar fare — fish and chips, burgers, cheese and charcuterie plates — with local and seasonal ambitions. And while pub grub can often lean heavy and meaty, they've included a good selection of vegetarian items and healthier dishes.
That said, the desserts may be the most eye-catching things on the menu. Descriptions of classic apple pie served a la mode with ice cream from neighboring Franklin Fountain and a "big and boozy adult sundae" with stout ice cream, chocolate syrup, salted caramel, malt pretzel-peanut crumble and honey whipped cream set an awfully high bar.
2nd Story Brewing, 117 Chestnut Street, 267-314-5770, opening October 21.
