Just under two months old, Old City newcomer Capofitto is ready to launch brunch this weekend. And while we are usually brunch agnostics around here (we don't agree it's for jerks, nor do we often find it something worth lining up about), this menu looks legit.
The first thing on the menu is a selection of sgroppini, and that is a move we applaud. (Sgroppino is a slushy mix of sorbet or granita, prosecco, and spirits that seems to be catching on lately. Lo Spiedo also put a nice Campari-grapefruit version on their launch menu, if you need to do further research). In addition to the lemony standard, Capofitto has come up with some local and seasonal variations on the theme: one has pear sorbet and Dad's Hat bourbon, and the other has apple sorbet and La Colombe's Different Drum rum.
On the food side, think bread pudding in place of french toast, brunch pizza and a variety of sweet calzones, pasta carbonara, and of course — it's still a gelato place at heart — a "Sicilian breakfast" of brioche con gelato. Throughout the menu, you'll find plenty of house-made baked goods, DOP imports, and the work of some local producers like 1732 Meats and La Colombe.
Capofitto's brunch service begins this Saturday, November 8, and will run from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
