Michael Schulson (Sampan, The Saint James) will open an Independence Mall-adjacent beer garden, aptly called Independence Beer Garden, on (when else) Independence Day. The Insider, who broke the story, says the eventual plan is for a seven-month open season.
Groundswell Design (who, among many other things, were behind Morgan's Pier and the PHS Pop-Up Beer Garden, pictured above) have plans for the massive (30,000 square feet all told) space that include shuffleboard and other amusements, plus self-serve food and drink stations. The "all-American" menu will be spearheaded by Travis Masar, the Denver native who competed on the most recent season of Top Chef but quietly moved to Philly and took on the kitchen at Sampan before the season began airing.
