Sweetgreen Center City
924 Walnut St.
Website
Status: Open today at 11 a.m.
Today is opening day for fast-casual salad shop Sweetgreen's first Center City location (their third in our area overall, with shops in Ardmore and U City). And to celebrate, today's grand opening is a charitable event. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today only, you can pay what you wish for your order, with proceeds going to Fair Food Philly. (Their regular hours — 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily — will begin on Thursday.)
Most of the menu will be familiar if you've visited their location at Penn, with a few exceptions: At this new location, you'll find a new wild rice bowl (with shredded kale, apples, almonds, goat cheese and more) in addition to their signature salads and soups — but no frozen yogurt, no wraps, and no juices (but there is house-made lemonade). There's also no seating available inside the Center City store (there is, however, an open kitchen to give you something to watch while you wait).
Your order is built along a Chipotle-style line, so you can pick a salad from the menu and tweak it just a little as you go, or start from scratch and build your own dish. The Washington DC-based chain makes a point of sourcing local ingredients for each new market they expand into, with a list of partner farms on display in the store. Online ordering will be available through their site.
