Federal Donuts Opening in U City Next Week

Photo: Eater Philly

The newest FedNuts is just about ready to go at Penn, meaning you'll be lunching on donuts and chicken starting on Monday, March 10.

The setup in U City will be familiar to those that have been to their other shops: donuts and coffee starting at open (7 a.m.), fried chicken starting at 11 a.m., with availability until 7 p.m. or when they sell out, whichever come first. (However, at any of the shops, you can pre-order to avoid disappointment.)

But yes, there are new flavors to be had at the new location. A ton of new flavors.

The new fancies are Marshmallow Marshmallow and Chocolate Covered Strawberry (the latter of which is not the chocolate-donut version they ran on Valentine's Day, though co-owner Tom Henneman told Eater that there will be more chocolate donuts to come in the future), and the new seasoning sugars for hot fresh donuts are Chocolate Peanut Butter and Orange Dream.

New fried chicken flavors are as follows:
Dry:
· Furikake (toasted sesame seeds, bonito flake, nori),
· Moussa (parsley, onion, saffron, coriander, cumin, sumac) and
· Buffalo Ranch
Glazes:
· Pad Thai (lime, roasted chili, crushed peanuts)
· Sweet Soy Garlic (sweet soy, roasted garlic, sherry)

Eater had a chance to sample everything, and it's safe to say there are some new classics here. (And if you're in the camp that thinks the sugars for the fresh hot varieties are not distinctive enough in flavor from each other, these new ones will be a pleasant surprise.)

Bonus tip: The opening coincides with spring break, so if you try it early you might beat some of the campus crowds.

Bonus bonus tip: While all of the chicken flavors here are new, rumor has it that the classic chili-garlic glaze will be available off-menu.
