Stephen Starr's New York City branch of El Vez opened about two weeks ago, and Eater critic Robert Sietsema dropped in (with LA Times critic Jonathan Gold and freelance writer Scarlett Lindeman) for an early look (not a starred review). Verdict? Oof. Gold, upon noticing a bit of vintage decor advertising not-on-the-menu pozole and birria: "this is the only restaurant I know of where they put up a sign on the wall for a far better restaurant."
